Readmission

To apply for readmission, please complete the online readmission form.

Students who wish to return must submit an Online Request for Readmission within two years of the effective term of their Leave of Absence.

Students who wish to return from a Health Leave of Absence must also submit the Health Readiness to Return form.

The evaluation of a student's application to return from a Health Leave of Absence can take several weeks, so please submit this information as early as possible.

Notice: Emerson Student Agreement

Students seeking readmission must review the Student Agreement in ECommon as soon as possible to avoid any registration holds.

Undergraduate Readmission

The Leave of Absence policy allows undergraduate students to take a leave from Emerson for a period of up to two years. During this two-year period, undergraduate students can be readmitted to the College through the Office of Student Success without having to reapply through the Office of Undergraduate Admission. Please refer to the Readmission policy as well. 

Process

Students who wish to return must submit an Online Request for Readmission within two years of the effective term of their Leave of Absence. Please note, the dates listed below are final deadlines to apply for readmission. We encourage students to apply for readmission as early as possible to ensure time to settle any holds on your account, register for courses, apply for financial aid, and complete any other necessary steps for your successful return to the college. Please consider the course registration and financial aid dates listed under Important Readmission Information when applying for readmission. As a reminder, students planning to return from a Health Leave of Absence will need to submit a Health Readiness to Return form in addition to the application to return from a leave of absence. Domestic Student Deadlines

  • Fall: August 15

Readmission Criteria

The following criteria will be considered when a request for readmission to Emerson College is submitted:

  • Academic standing at the time of leave
  • Number of credits earned at the time of leave
  • Conduct/social standing at Emerson at the time of leave
  • Current account balance. Students with a balance due will not be readmitted to the College until the account balance is paid in full
  • For students seeking readmission from a Health Leave of Absence, the following will be considered to make sure are able to actively participate in and benefit from the academic life of the College: demonstrated compliance with treatment recommendations; amelioration of the health condition that prompted the Health Leave; the ability to function safely and productively at the College.

Course Registration Info

  • Course registration for the fall semester begins in late March. For best course selection, please complete the Online Request for Readmission no later than March 1.
  • Course registration for the spring semester occurs in November. For best course selection, please complete the Online Request for Readmission no later than November 1.
  • Course registration for summer sessions begins in March. For best course selection, please complete the Online Request for Readmission no later than February 15.

We strongly encourage all students returning from a leave of absence to speak with an Academic Advisor before registering for classes. You can schedule a meeting by contacting the Academic Advising Center at  advising [at] emerson.edu (advising[at]emerson[dot]edu)  or 617-824-7876.

Housing

Students who have not completed the housing residency requirement must contact the Office of Housing and Residence Life at reslife [at] emerson.edu (reslife[at]emerson[dot]edu) or 617-824-8620 to discuss housing plans for their return.

Tuition and Bills

  • Summer bills are due in April on a date that varies slightly with each year’s calendar. If a student registers after the April payment deadline, the bill will be due in full at the time of registration.
  • Fall bills are sent around July 1 and due on August 1.
  • Spring bills are sent in November and due in mid-December on a date that varies slightly with each year’s calendar.

Financial Aid

  • March 15: Priority deadline for submission of the FAFSA for the fall term for U.S. citizens and Permanent Residents who wish to be considered for financial aid. Students who file a FAFSA after March 15 will be considered for financial aid, but some sources of aid may be limited or unavailable.
  • April 1: Priority Deadline for submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the summer term for U.S. citizens and Permanent Residents who wish to be considered for financial aid.
  • November 15: Priority deadline for submission of the FAFSA for the spring term for U.S. citizens and Permanent Residents who wish to be considered for financial aid. Students who file a FAFSA after November 15 will be considered for financial aid, but some sources of aid may be limited or unavailable.

International Students: F-1 Student Visa

International students MUST submit new certification of finances to the Office of International Student Affairs in order to receive a new I-20 Form (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigration Student Status). Health Forms

Please contact the Emerson Wellness Center to verify that your records are complete and up to date. The Emerson Wellness Center can be reached at healthservices [at] emerson.edu (healthservices[at]emerson[dot]edu) or 617-824-8666. Students must comply with state and College health requirements in effect at the time of their readmission.

Transfer Credits

If you are attending, or have attended, another college or university, please arrange for an official transcript to be sent to the Registrar’s Office, Emerson College, 120 Boylston Street, Boston, MA 02116-4624. The Registrar’s Office will determine the number of transferable credits from your previous institution(s).

If you are currently attending another college or university, Emerson reserves the right to ask for a mid-semester grade report from that institution.

Returning from a Health Leave

  • Students approved to return from a Health Leave must participate in a consultation with the Emerson Wellness Center or Emerson’s Counseling and Psychological Services before returning to campus to review any ongoing treatment recommendations. This consultation can be completed by phone or in person.
  • Upon returning to campus, you must meet with one or more support offices within the first two weeks of classes as designated by the Office of Student Success to discuss and assess your transition back to campus.

Graduate Readmission

The Leave of Absence policy allows graduate students to take a leave from Emerson for a period of up to one year. Within this one-year period, graduate students can be readmitted to the college through the Office of Graduate Studies without having to reapply through the Office of Graduate Admission. Students wishing to extend their leave of absence beyond one year must submit a new request for a leave of absence. Graduate students should contact the Office of Graduate Studies (180 Tremont Street, 12th Floor) with any questions regarding academic policies and procedure.
