Natalie Lemle, MFA ’24, sold her debut novel, Artifacts, to Simon & Schuster in a pre-empt in 2023, while still a graduate student in Emerson’s Creative Writing program. Later this month, Lemle will join fellow Emerson alumni and faculty at the Boston Book Festival to share their thoughts on storytelling.
The Boston Book Festival will be held Saturday, October 17, at venues around Copley Square, with a pre-festival conversation between Michael Lewis (Blockers: Rebels in the Deep State, Moneyball, The Big Short) and Geraldine Brooks (Memorial Days, The Secret Chord, March) on Friday, October 16.
Lemle will join the panel Who Gets to Tell the Story?, about novels rooted in history and the issues around agency and ownership they raise.
Xujun Eberlein, MFA ’17, (Apologies Forthcoming, The River Drowns the Able Swimmer) will speak on the panel Building a Memoir’s Global World for an American Audience, alongside Lorena Hernández Leonard, MA ’11 (Salsipuedes: Leave If You Can).
Writing, Literature and Publishing (WLP) affiliated faculty member Alysia Abbott will join the panel Writing the Body: Narratives of Illness, Disability and Witness. Abbott is the author of Fairyland, A Memoir of My Father.
And WLP Assistant Professor Alden Jones (The Wanting Was a Wilderness, Unaccompanied Minors, The Blind Masseuse) will moderate Acts of Recovery: Crossing Genres of Lineage and Loss.
