Chris L. Terry is author of the novels Black Card (magical realism, satire) and Zero Fade (young adult), which received accolades from NPR, Kirkus Reviews, and more. With Afro-Punk founder James Spooner, he is co-editor of the Black Punk Now literary anthology, which was named a best music book of 2023 by Pitchfork and The Guardian.
Terry's work often explores Black and multiracial experiences, the ways pop culture informs identity, and ideas of home and nostalgia. He is currently working on a horror novel, and loves to read hardboiled detective fiction, horror that reckons with historical wrongs, and voice-driven young adult and middle grade fiction.
Terry was born in 1979 to a Black father and white mother, and spent his youth touring in punk bands. He now lives in Los Angeles with his family and teaches creative writing for Emerson College and UC San Diego.
