Gregory Morvillo

Gregory Morvillo has been a white-collar criminal and SEC regulatory litigator for almost 25 years and is best-known for his work shaping insider-trading law. His victory before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in the landmark insider trading case United States v. Newman made him one of the most sought-after insider-trading defense attorneys in the country. Since that time, he has successfully defended many individuals accused of committing insider trading by the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Morvillo’s career includes cases in federal district courts around the country as well as appeals in the Second, Third, Fourth, and Tenth Circuits and cases in numerous state courts. He has twice successfully contested opponents’ requests for intervention by the United States Supreme Court.

At Emerson, Morvillo teaches Introduction to Law and Conflict and Negotiation. During his time at Emerson, he penned a Conflict and Negotiation textbook ironically titled, “How to Destroy Your Opponents and Rule the World through Conflicts and Negotiations.” The book focuses on the development of practical, real-world skills to improve students’ abilities to manage conflicts and negotiations. The book was designed to break down the often complex and esoteric concepts at play in conflict and present them in a way that makes them accessible to students seeking to learn the science and art of conflict and its resolution.

Morvillo’s analysis on insider trading and other securities and criminal law issues have been published in many different law journals and blogs, and he has appeared on various national news shows and podcasts discussing insider trading law. He has been ranked by Chambers for his work in criminal defense for each of the past five years, has been listed in New York Super Lawyers every year since 2011, and has been honored by publications such as Who’s Who Legal, Lexology, the Legal 500, and other journals that recognize lawyers for professionalism and excellence in practice.

Morvillo loves teaching Emerson students in the classroom and equally enjoys mentoring students outside of class and helping them achieve their career goals.
