Jason Cortlund wrote and co-directed the narrative feature films Crookedfinger (2023), Barracuda (2017), and Now, Forager (2012). Now, Forager premiered at International Film Festival Rotterdam (Netherlands) and New Directors/New Films (NYC) and was nominated for a 2012 Gotham Award for Breakthrough Director. Barracuda premiered in competition at SXSW and was distributed in the U.S. by Orion Pictures/Samuel Goldwyn Films.
Cortlund studied writing and film theory at University of Oregon and earned a master’s in screenwriting at the University of Texas at Austin. His work has been supported by the Venice Biennale College-Cinema, IFF Rotterdam's Cinemart, US in Progress (Poland), IFP/The Gotham, Austin Film Society, and the Texas Commission on the Arts. He has been an artist resident at Yaddo, and MacDowell, as well as a post-graduate fellow in screenwriting at the James A. Michener Center for Writers.
