Jason Cortlund wrote and co-directed (with Julia Halperin) the narrative feature films Now, Forager (2012) and Barracuda (2017). Now, Forager premiered at International Film Festival Rotterdam (Netherlands) and New Directors/New Films (NYC) and was nominated for a 2012 Gotham Award for Breakthrough Director. Barracuda premiered in competition at SXSW and was distributed in the U.S. by Orion Pictures/Samuel Goldwyn Films.

Cortlund studied writing and film theory at University of Oregon and earned a master’s in screenwriting at the University of Texas at Austin. His work has been supported by the Venice Biennale, IFF Rotterdam - Cinemart, US in Progress (Poland), IFP, Austin Film Society, and the Texas Commission on the Arts. He has been an artist resident at Centrum Institute, Corporation of Yaddo, and MacDowell Colony as well as a post-graduate fellow in screenwriting at the James A. Michener Center for Writers.
