Jonathan Goldberg

Jonathan Goldberg is a Boston-based music director, vocal coach, and accompanist who has been teaching in the Emerson BFA Musical Theatre program since 2004. In addition to classes, his numerous Emerson Stage productions include Sweet Charity, Amour, Bat Boy, The Spitfire Grill, Next To Normal, Into The Woods, Working, Urinetown, and more. Goldberg is also music director for the BFA Musical Theatre Showcase in Boston and New York each spring.

Recent productions at Wheelock Family Theatre include Annie, The Spongebob Musical, Little Women, Ragtime, and Billy Elliot. Productions at the Lyric Stage Company of Boston include Pacific Overtures, Sweeney Todd, On The Town, The Mikado, Big River, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Follies, among others. Goldberg won IRNE Awards for Lyric productions of Kiss Me, Kate, Grey Gardens, Man of La Mancha, and A Little Night Music.

His dedication to youth theatre includes 10 years with Boston Children’s Theatre, and educational programs at Wheelock and Lyric Stage, as well as classes and workshops for Emerson’s pre-college summer program. Other credits include Forever Plaid at the Stuart Street Playhouse, assistant music director for Pacific Overtures at the North Shore Music Theatre, and many shows at Boston’s former outdoor Publick Theatre. He also spent three years as music director for the Boston company of Nunsense.

Goldberg is pianist/vocalist at St. Katherine Drexel Church in Roxbury, where he has worked since 1988. He also specializes in vocal/choral arranging, including custom arrangements for the Emerson Musical Theatre showcases.
