Jonathan Kitt
Assistant Professor, School of Arts and Interdisciplinary Studies
Jonathan Kitt is an assistant professor of scene study and acting in the Department of Performing Arts, and an actor and director whose career spans over 30 years. He has been recognized by The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) Region IV for excellence in directing, and is a two-time Audelco Award nominee for Best Actor.
Kitt’s unique approach to performance integrates the Black Acting Aesthetic and the Drama of Being with the Stanislavski System, offering a comprehensive understanding of theatrical techniques and cultivating the practice and appreciation of acting with diverse communities. He aims to inspire and mentor aspiring performers by fostering connection between life and art, while also promoting artistic integrity and professional rigor.
Prior to coming to Emerson, Professor Kitt held positions at Clark Atlanta University and the University of West Georgia. He is a proud member of the National Alliance of Acting Teachers, AEA, SAG-AFTRA and ECCAAUP.
