Kara McCabe

Dr. Kara McCabe’s book project, Staged Magic, examines the ways that knowledge and belief intersect with witchcraft on the early modern English stage. In this project, she pays particular attention to witchcraft treatises, pamphlets, and material cultures to argue that women’s knowledge had a meaningful impact on early modern society.

Her other research interests include theories of disgust, the female body and sexuality, and history of the book. Her most recent publication employs Martin Heidegger’s thing theory to examine the magical objects in Ralph Knevet’s Rhodon and Iris.
