Affiliated Faculty, School of Communication
Dr. Kate Swartz is an interpersonal communication researcher focusing on metacommunication and incidental communication. Her work explores how our conversations convey implicit information about ourselves, our relationships, and our communication perspectives. Through mixed-methods research, she investigates judgment accuracy, assumptions, and communication that is buried between the lines.
Dr. Swartz is particularly enthusiastic about helping students grasp new and challenging facets about statistics, research design, and communicating research findings. Her work has been published in pedagogy-focused journals, including the Basic Communication Course Annual and Communication Teacher.
