Lori Constable

Lori Constable has taught for four decades both in the United States and internationally, including 11 years in New South Wales, Australia.

Constable has served as head of drama and dance, as an adjudicator for the New South Wales Higher School Certificate for Drama and English, and created state assessment curriculum both for NSW and the state of Minnesota. She has also served on advisory boards for student curriculum and assessment for numerous organizations, including the Perpich Center for Arts Education and the Minnesota State High School League. Among her areas of interest for drama education are social justice learning and critically responsive pedagogy, with an emphasis on the contributions of Indigenous American Indian tribes and communities.

Constable has taught over 5,800 students in her time as a secondary classroom teacher, in contexts ranging from inner city to suburban to rural communities, primarily focusing on integrating theatre arts into the general education core areas to provide opportunities for Social and Emotional Learning. She has led dozens of workshops and seminars focusing on curriculum development, PBL and the arts in the non-arts classroom, and recently, at the Theatre Education Conference hosted by the Educational Theatre Association, looking at how to implement anchor standards that address the contributions of Indigenous communities into a broad spectrum of curricular disciplines. This work has continued at new teacher workshops in 2024.
