Mary Kovaleski Byrnes

Mary Kovaleski Byrnes is the author of The Balance (Clemson University Press, forthcoming 2027) and So Long the Sky (Platypus Press, 2018). Her teaching and research interests include poetry, global Englishes and the commodification of English in Eastern Europe, contemporary American women-identifying writers, and intersectional pedagogies of creative writing studies and rhetoric and composition. She is a senior reader for Ploughshares.

Kovaleski Byrnes’ work has appeared in journals and anthologies, including Guernica, Salamander, the Four Way Review, the Boston Globe, Best of Kore Press, Best of the Net, and elsewhere. Her pedagogy on service learning and writing has been presented at national conferences, including the Conference on College Composition and Communication and AWP. She is the co-founder of EmersonWRITES, a free creative writing program at Emerson for Boston Public School students.
