Paul Hackett
Senior Affiliated Faculty, School of Communication
Dr. Paul M.W. Hackett is a multi-disciplinary scholar and researcher focused on how humans’ understanding of their world underpins their behavior. His research and academic collaborations cross several fields, encompassing psychology, sociology, philosophy, fine art, anthropology, and healthcare.
Over a career spanning more than four decades, Dr. Hackett has pioneered the Declarative Mapping Approach (DMA) and the Declarative Mapping Sentence (DMS), frameworks that expand traditional, quantitative facet theory into diverse qualitative, ontological, and philosophical applications.
Dr. Hackett has published over 35 books, and more than 325 publications in leading journals, including Frontiers in Psychology and Sociology; International Journal of Social Research Methodology; Psychometrika; Environment and Behavior; Multivariate Behavior Research; Perceptual and Motor Skills; and Personality and Individual Differences.
In addition to serving as a senior affiliated faculty member at Emerson, he is a full professor at several institutions, a visiting research professor at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Nigeria, and a visiting professor in health research at the University of Suffolk in the U.K.
