For 25 years, Philip Rappaport worked as an editor at major publishing houses, including Penguin Random House, Simon & Schuster, and Routledge. He acquired prominent authors and cultural figures ranging from Jon Kabat-Zinn and Howie Mandel to Dr. Martin Seligman, and secured Canadian rights for works by David France, the Dalai Lama, and Anne Applebaum, with titles earning recognition from PEN and the Books for a Better Life Awards.
Later, navigating the industry’s digital transition as senior vice president and publisher at Open Road Media, he oversaw a catalog of more than 10,000 eBook titles, acquiring major LGBTQ+ and fiction backlists.
Outside the classroom, Rappaport works as a developmental editor and consultant. He began his career as a bookseller at Montreal’s bilingual LGBTQ+ bookstore, Librairie L’Androgyne, and is an alumnus of the Banff Publishing Workshop and the Zev Birger Editorial Fellowship.
