Tristan Raines
Assistant Professor, School of Arts and Interdisciplinary Studies
Tristan Raines is a costume designer, educator, and artist who has worked in New York, on and off Broadway, regionally, and internationally on a wide variety of productions and projects over the past 17 years.
Select theaters and companies he has collaborated with are Center Theater Group, La Jolla Playhouse, The Muny, Denver Theater Center, Maltz Jupiter Theater, Capital Rep, Playmakers Rep, Kaleidoscope Immersive, Cirque Música, Norwegian Cruise Line, Virgin Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, and Rattlestick Playwrights Theater. Raines has also worked with the Off/the Lane organization to bring mentorship and universal theater education to young artists all over the country.
Raines is a member of Rising Phoenix Repertory Company in New York City. He began teaching at Pace University, where he taught costume design-related courses and developed design capstone classes. He has taught at Emerson since 2022 and now serves as associate chair of the Performing Arts Department.
In addition to his academic degrees, he holds certification in Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity Leadership, as well as certification in Inclusive Design for Online Education. He also studied musical theater and Shakespeare at Imperial College. Raines is a proud United Scenic Artists Union Member.
