If you’re requesting academic accommodations for the first time, start by registering with SAS. You’ll provide information about your disability and requested accommodations, submit supporting documentation, and meet with a SAS staff member as part of the interactive process.

Step 1: Fill out the SAS Registration Form

Step 2: Submit documentation

Provide documentation from a qualified, impartial professional with experience and expertise related to the accommodations you’re requesting. You can upload your documentation when you register or submit it later.

Step 3: Meet with SAS

A SAS staff member will reach out to you to schedule an interview to discuss your disclosed disability, how it affects you in an academic setting, and the accommodations you’re requesting. Interviews can take place in person, by phone, or via Zoom.

Step 4: Receive a decision

SAS will review your request and documentation and determine whether you’re eligible for the requested accommodation or a reasonable alternative. You’ll receive the decision via email. In most cases, students will be eligible for the approved academic accommodations throughout their time at Emerson.

For students to implement approved accommodations in their classes, students will request semester letters in the SAS Portal each semester. Once the request is verified by SAS, the letter will be sent to the student’s professors. Students will receive instructions prior to the semester start on how to complete this step.

If there are any questions about the process or type of information to submit, contact SAS or communicate directly with a staff member to arrange an informational meeting.

Need support for a temporary disability?

Students with temporary disabilities, such as an injury, concussion, or short-term illness, may request accommodations through SAS. Reasonable accommodations will be provided for the appropriate duration as students manage their recovery.

Provisional Accommodations

You may still be able to receive support while you’re working to obtain documentation of a disability. SAS may grant provisional accommodations on an individualized basis, generally for one semester. If you think you may have a disability or aren’t sure what documentation you need, contact SAS at 617-824-8592 or sas@emerson.edu.
