Admission FAQs
When do I need to apply?
Application deadlines are set by each graduate program, often with a priority deadline (earlier receipt of decision, first consideration of scholarships, more time to find housing) and a regular deadline. You can find the listing of each program on the Dates and Deadlines page.
What are the application requirements?
The application requirements vary by program. You can find the application requirements for your program of interest on the program pages. Here is a list of all of our graduate program pages.
Does Emerson require the submission of the GRE or GMAT?
No, Emerson does not require the submission of the GRE or GMAT to any of our graduate program offerings.
Do you require any additional materials from International applicants?
Applicants whose native language is not English must provide evidence of English proficiency by submitting official TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, or Pearson test results.
Additionally, non-U.S. transcripts and degrees completed outside the U.S. will require an evaluation. Evaluations must include a course-by-course evaluation, GPA, and degree equivalency.
To learn more about these requirements and available waivers, please refer to our Graduate Admission Policies page.
I would like to speak with an admission representative; where do I go?
You can email, call, or schedule a Zoom meeting with a member of the Graduate Admission team. Each team member is assigned a collection of programs and is happy to answer your questions! Get in touch at gradadmission@emerson.edu.
Do you have any on-campus or virtual events I can attend?
Yes! We regularly update our listing of in-person and virtual webinar-style events. It’s a great opportunity to connect with faculty and current students.
Do you offer graduate student tours?
Yes! We regularly host tours of our downtown Boston campus. You can schedule a graduate tour on our Visit page.
Do I have to submit any additional information to be considered for a fellowship or scholarship?
No additional submissions are required to be considered for a fellowship or scholarship. All applicants are considered for fellowships and scholarships based on their academic credentials, submitted creative works, and past experience. Should a student be offered admission to a graduate program, they will also be notified at the same time of any additional scholarship funding.
What is the cost of tuition for graduate courses?
Emerson charges tuition on a per-credit basis. You can view the current cost per credit on the Tuition and Costs page.
Does Emerson offer housing for graduate students?
Graduate students are not required to live on campus, but have the option to apply for on-campus housing through Emerson’s Housing and Residential Education Office. Housing is non-guaranteed and available on a first-come basis for the full academic year.
What is your policy on using AI tools?
At Emerson College, we value creativity and critical thinking and believe in the power of every human voice. While we also encourage the growth of new technologies and recognize the growing importance of generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, the Office of Admission believes that the most discerning, thoughtful and compelling personal statements and writing samples are representative of the author’s uniquely human voice, research, and effort.
If you elect to use these tools at any point while writing your essays or producing any other material for your admission application, they should only be used to support your original ideas rather than to compose your work in its entirety.
Applicants are expected to adhere to the same standards of academic honesty as current Emerson students, who are expected to act with integrity when producing academic work and to abide by the College’s Academic Misconduct Policy.
