Ulya Aviral is a producer, writer, and director for film. Aviral’s films have received screenings, recognition, and awards at many prestigious venues and festivals around the world, including the Boston Globe, Turkish Festival Short Film and Documentary Competition at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, NewFilmmakers at the Anthology Film Archives NYC, Swedish International Film Festival, and Queer Kampala International Film Festival among others. A film she wrote and directed, "Shut Your Eyes, I'm Gonna Dance," was listed as a semi-finalist at the Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival, which is Academy Award and BAFTA-qualifying. 

As an editorial board member of New Explorations, a peer-reviewed journal at the University of Toronto, Aviral contributes to scholarly discourse transcending new media and technology. Additionally, she has served as an artist/filmmaker member of the Civic Design Initiative at MIT, participating in the work of an interdisciplinary research group exploring climate change and climate immigration.

Since receiving her MFA from Emerson College in 2017, Ulya Aviral taught at RISD, Emerson College, and GrubStreet.
