On Monday, May 4, 2015, Emerson College and Berklee College of Music, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Mexico, present Reimagine Mexico: A Musical Celebration. The concert starts at 7:00 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) at Emerson’s Paramount Center Mainstage, located at 559 Washington Street, Boston. It is open to the public and free with an eventbrite.com online reservation.
The event celebrates the music and young talent of Mexico and both Emerson and Berklee’s advancing global initiatives, which include opportunities for students to experience Latin American culture. At Berklee, students can participate in the College’s Spanish-language program, Berklee Latino, in Mexico and Colombia; minor in Latin music performance; and pursue focused studies in Latin music. Emerson College students can participate annually in the Rosarito Public Diplomacy Workshop in Rosarito, Mexico, and the Proyecto Boston-Medellín initiative in Colombia. In addition, Emerson students minoring in Global and Post-Colonial Studies, among other disciplines, can engage in education abroad programs throughout Latin America and the world.
The Consulate of Mexico’s cultural program promotes and projects the art, music, traditions and creativity of Mexico, through the work of well-established artists as well as the innovative expressions of emerging talents. The Reimagine Mexico concert is the result of a partnerships with Berklee College of Music and Emerson College with the objective of fostering a deeper knowledge of its diverse culture in New England.
The 90-minute concert program will feature Berklee students performing Mexican hits and original songs written by Mexican students, and a special performance by Mexican jazz singer Magos Herrera, who, according to Jazz Times, “is establishing herself among the best singers in jazz.”
