Announcement
Boston, MA —
First, on Friday, February 26, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Professor Hans-Ulrich Reck, rektor of the Academy of Media Arts, will present a screening of Pier Paolo Pasolini’s Accattone (1961) in the Bright Family Screening Room at the Paramount Center. Then, on Saturday, February 27, after dark, Para, a video installation created by international conceptual artist and Assistant Professor at KHM, Mischa Kuball, will open at 555 Washington Street. The display will be on view through April 10.
“This is a tremendous opportunity to take advantage of the scholarly expertise and artistic imagination of two faculty members from the KHM, one of Europe’s distinguished media art colleges. These events mark a first step in a proposed series of collaborations with the two colleges that will expand upon the offerings of both schools to the students and faculty,” says Joseph D. Ketner II, Foster Chair in Contemporary Art, Distinguished Curator-in-Residence.
Professor Reck will present a screening of Pasolini’s Accattone (1961). The film follows a pimp whose life takes a downward turn after his prostitute is imprisoned. It is Pasolini’s first film, and illustrates his idea of film not as a representation of reality, but as reality itself. Sponsored by the School of the Arts, the Visual and Media Arts Department, and the Goethe Institut, Boston, the screening is free and open to the public; first-come, first-served. It takes place on Friday, February 26, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Bright Family Screening Room, Paramount Center, located at 559 Washington Street, Boston.
Para is a video display created by international conceptual artist and Assistant Professor at the Academy of Media Arts, Mischa Kuball. His art emphasizes the psychological components of human interaction with urban space. For this video installation, Kuball has documented public settings such as office buildings, corporate sites and private condos throughout his worldwide travels, recording architecture in the hearts of cities at night. These global images of urban environments are the central images of Para that will illuminate an empty office floor across the street from the Paramount Urban Screen, lighting up the unused space. Para will be visible in the evenings at 555 Washington Street February 27 through April 10.
About the Academy of Media Arts (Kunsthochschule für Medien, KHM)
The Kunsthochschule für Medien, Köln, was established in 1989. The project-based study it offers brings together practices, theories and reflections from the fields of film and television, art and media theory, and art. The KHM creates a special experimental climate for independent, artistic work. The individual development of artistic projects, their guidance and reflexive appropriation, is at the core of the “Media and Fine Art” degree course. These projects are supported by the interdisciplinary supervision of professors, artistic and academic staff, and technicians.
