All Promotions & Tenure Candidates
March 1, 2021** | Candidate notifies Dean of intent to stand for promotion and/or tenure in the next academic year, 2021–2022. |

April 15 | Candidate, Chair (or Institute Director of Faculty Development), and Dean completes a list of twelve potential external evaluators of scholarship/creative work to take place in summer 2021. |
May 17 | Chair (or Institute Director of Faculty Development) secures commitment from outside reviewers. |
June 7 | Candidate delivers dossier of scholarly/creative work to Chair (or Institute Director of Faculty Development) to be reviewed by outside reviewers. |
September 1 | Chair (or Institute Director of Faculty Development) assembles confidential supplemental file consisting of external evaluators' review of scholarly/creative work. Candidate delivers his/her dossier to Chair (or Institute Director of Faculty Development); the Chair (or Institute Director of Faculty Development) makes the dossier and confidential supplemental file available to the DPTC with the understanding that tenure cases are addressed first. Note: Candidate does not have access to confidential supplemental file at any time. |
Fall Review Process
October 1, 2021 | DPTC completes its review of tenure and promotion cases and DPTC Chair forwards copies of the report and the recommendation to the Dean, Faculty Status Committee (FSC) and the Candidate. After this deadline, the DPTC Chair forwards an informational copy to the Chair (or Institute Director of Faculty Development). Chair (or Institute Director of Faculty Development) completes review and forwards a copy to the Dean, the FSC, and the Candidate. After this deadline, the Chair (or Institute Director of Faculty Development) forwards an informational copy to the DPTC Chair. The Chair (or Institute Director of Faculty Development) makes the dossier and confidential supplemental file available to the FSC and Dean. (If the dossier is in print form, the Candidate checks the contents of the dossier in the presence of the Department Chair [or Institute Director of Faculty Development] and delivers the dossier to the FSC Chair). Within five business days of receipt of reviews from the DPTC and Chair (or Institute Director of Faculty Development), the Candidate has the right to address a written response to the reviewers at the next level. Note: Candidate does not have access to confidential supplemental file at any time. |

After this deadline, the FSC forwards an informational copy to the Dean. Dean completes review and forwards a copy to the Provost, Chair (or Institute Director of Faculty Development), DPTC Chair, and Candidate. After this deadline, the Dean forwards an informational copy to the Chair of the FSC. Within five business days of receipt of the FSC’s and Dean’s review, the Candidate has the right to address a written response to the reviewers at the next level. December 1 | Deadline for Candidate to withdraw from consideration for tenure and/or promotion by notifying Dean in writing. |
December 10 | Provost delivers written recommendations to the President with copies to the Candidate, the Candidate's Dean, and the Chairs of the FSC and DPTC. The Provost forwards the candidate's dossier to the President of the College. Within five business days of receipt of the Provost’s review, the Candidate has the right to address a written response to the reviewers at the next level. |
December*** | The President of the College makes a recommendation to the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees. The Provost presents all tenure and promotion cases to the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees. As the full Board does not meet in December, when the Board of Trustees convenes their spring meeting, they will vote on the motion of the Committee. Within five business days of the Trustees' decision the Provost will notify the Candidate in writing, electronically. |
Spring Review Process
February 14, 2022 | DPTC completes its review of tenure and/or promotion cases and DPTC Chair forwards copies of the report and the recommendation to the Dean, Faculty Status Committee (FSC) and the Candidate. The Provost presents all promotion cases to the Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees. The Academic Affairs Committee of the Board votes and submits a recommendation to the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees votes on the motion of the Committee. Within five business days of the Trustees’ decision the Provost will notify the Candidate in writing, electronically. |
