What is Hazing?

Hazing is any action taken or any situation created intentionally that causes embarrassment, harassment or ridicule and risks emotional and/or physical harm to members of a group or team, whether new or not, regardless of the person’s willingness to participate.

What is Emerson's Policy on Hazing?

Emerson strictly prohibits hazing, defined in the College Hazing Policy as "any action or situation that recklessly or intentionally endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a student for the purpose of initiation or admission into or affiliation with any student club/ organization operating under the sanction of the College."

What can you do?

Participation in a club or an organization is a way to positively engage with the community, make connections, and develop socially and professionally.  Don't let hazing get in the way!

  • Take responsibility, when you see it occurring or when it happens to you
  • Speak up and reporting it immediately – you may save a life!
