Brian Basgen is the interim vice president for facilities and technology. He oversees five departments: Information Technology (IT) which empowers the creative pursuits of the College by providing adaptable technology solutions; Media Technologies and Production (MTP), which provides advanced technologies to enhance the student learning experience; Boston’s Uncommon Radio WERS, which provides Boston music fans with enlightenment, companionship, and musical diversity; Facilities, which is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of Emerson’s buildings and grounds; and Business Services, which collaborates with external partners to enhance the campus experience for students, faculty, staff, and guests.
Over the past twenty years, Basgen has held leadership roles focused on assembling teams and transforming operations. His work has centered on developing multi-year strategies to drive institutional evolution, fostering collaboration across departments, and designing organizational structures built for long-term sustainability.
Basgen joined Emerson College in 2016 as CIO, leading the IT Department. In 2021, his leadership expanded to include WERS and MTP. And in 2024, his responsibilities grew further to include Facilities and Business Services.
Beyond his professional work, his creative pursuits include photography and writing. He currently serves on the EDUCAUSE AI Expert Panel & AI Community of Practice. Since 2020, he has mentored aspiring CIOs through the Vantage Leadership Lounge.
Basgen holds an MS in IT management from Trident University and BA in philosophy and history from Flinders University.
