Iris Amelia O’Connor (she/her) has worked for a number of publishers in technical, consumer, and higher education spaces, including: O'Reilly Media, F+W Media/Adams Media (now Simon & Schuster), Cengage Learning, and Macmillan, offering expertise in ebook development and design, quality assurance, content architecture, and accessibility for multiple digital platforms. She has also worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the Treasury's IT department as Website and Digital Media Manager, where she focused on the Treasury's web presence across 13 agencies, in addition to serving as a consultant for the Massachusetts Trial Court. From 2015 to 2019, she served as president of Bookbuilders of Boston, a nonprofit industry guild that connected publishing professionals for more than 80 years.
She is currently serves as Manager, Digital Services at Emerson College, working with the Web & Digital Services team. In collaboration with Marketing, Communications, and the Web team, Iris partners with stakeholders across the College's widespread departments and offices to ensure quality content and user experience on emerson.edu.
Iris is an alum of Emerson's publishing and writing graduate program (2012), focusing on digital publishing and ebook production. Her master's project (under John Rodzvilla) was a graphic novella coded as an EPUB (DUO login required). Before her adventures at Emerson she earned her B.A. in English with honors as a Florida Medallion Scholar from Florida International University in Miami, where she is from.
A proud Cuban American, in her spare time Iris sings in a choir, takes beginner's piano, and streams on Twitch. Her community has raised $10,000 for various charities since May 2021.
