Jan Roberts-Breslin

Jan Roberts-Breslin is the dean of graduate and professional studies. She served as interim provost from 2021 to 2024. She is an independent media artist whose work has been broadcast on PBS and has received national and international festival awards.

Roberts-Breslin has been at Emerson since 1990, and she was the founding director of the MFA in Film and Media Art program. She served as a visiting scholar at Communication University of China in Beijing from 2014 to 2018.

She is the author of Making Media: Foundations of Sound and Image Production, the fifth edition of which was published in 2022 by Focal Press/Routledge. She has also served as video director for the United Church of Christ in New York City and has taught at Temple and Seton Hall universities.

Roberts-Breslin holds an MFA in film and video production from Temple University and a BA in liberal studies and photography, film studies, and dance from the University of Delaware.
