Thomas Vogel is a Professor of Marketing Communication at Emerson College. He received his MFA and BFA degrees at the Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart and his BS in Media Technology Engineering at the Stuttgart Media University. He completed his PhD with Summa Cum Laude at the University of Tübingen, Germany. His dissertation “Developing Creative Literacy – The long-term Impact of Creativity Training” explores the lasting effects of college-based creativity training.
His research focuses on the nature of creativity, creative thinking and creative process, and creativity training. His most recent research projects explore the impact of teaching towards creative agency and the effects that generative A.I. systems can have on students’ creative thinking. He is the author of Breakthrough Thinking – A Guide to Creative Thinking and Idea Generation (HOW Books), and the director and producer of YesNoMaybe, a film about how students can learn and practice creativity, creative thinking and problem solving as a skill.
Vogel is also a co-founder of mediaman, an international digital agency headquartered in Germany, with offices in Boston and Shanghai, and Next Mobility Labs, a venture studio that builds companies that shape modern mobility. He is a member of the Board of Advisors of Beheard.World, an organization that uses film, performing arts and advocacy campaigns to give people and communities transformative ways to be seen and heard.
Prior to joining Emerson, Vogel was a professor of media design in the Department of Media Management at the University of Applied Sciences Wiesbaden, Germany, where he served as the Founding Dean.
