Celebrating four alumni with exceptional careers in radio

On Saturday, May 31, Emerson College’s radio station WERS 88.9 will host its annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony. The event honors Emerson alumni who worked at the station and continue to excel in the field of broadcast radio. The 2014 inductees are Gary Krantz ’81, president/CEO of Krantz Media Group; Florence Markoff ’37, long-time radio personality on WEAN, WJAR, WICE, and WLKW; Chet Tart ’74, vice president/general manager, WSVU North Palm Beach Seaview Radio; and Jacquie Gales Webb ’77, host, Sunday Afternoon Gospel, 96.3 WHUR.

This year, WERS celebrated its 65th anniversary. Since its inception, it has served as a training ground for broadcasting students at Emerson. “We are very excited to welcome these exceptional broadcasters and alumni back to campus as the newest members of the WERS Hall of Fame—recognizing their achievements in radio,” said WERS General Manager Jack Casey.

Past WERS Hall of Fame inductees include WBZ Radio’s Joe Mathieu; president and CEO of Berkowitz Broadcast Consulting Gary Berkowitz; WKLB-FM’s Carolyn Kruse; program director at B96.5 and Magic WMJM 101.3 Philip David March; and WATD 95.9’s Malcolm Alter.

This year’s WERS Hall of Fame induction ceremony takes place Saturday, May 31, at 3:00 pm in the Semel Theater (10 Boylston Place, 3rd Floor) at Emerson College.
