Credit Overload Policy

  • Undergraduate students wishing to take more than 16 credits during a semester must have a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher to be approved to overload.
  • Graduate students wishing to take more than 14 credits must submit a General Petition to Graduate Studies. 
  • Undergraduate students taking classes in Los Angeles may not overload beyond 17 credits during the ELA semester.
  • Undergraduates may not take more than 4 overload credits a semester.
  • First-semester undergraduates, both freshmen and transfers, may not overload, with the exception of voice, dance, and non-tuition courses.
  • Overloaded undergraduate courses are billed on a per-credit basis.
