The following funds are available to support VMA student productions. Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply and receive monetary awards based on specific criteria. These funds can be utilized towards the production of your student film. Students are allowed to apply for these awards once a semester.

Andrea Mangino Montoni '78 Film Catalyst Fund

Through the enormous generosity of an Emerson College benefactor and trustee, Andrea Mangino Montoni '78, an annual grant has been established for which first semester BFA students working on a film or video project are eligible to apply. The specific aim of the grant is to make a significant impact on a meritorious BFA film/video project in being able to realize its full potential.

Distribution from the fund will be used to benefit Emerson College students with awards generated by the income of this fund. The award will be used as seed money to start and finish a film intended for screening at one of Emerson College's film festivals.

Total Award Available per Year

  • $10,000 (typically distributed as $2,500 awards per project)

Eligibility

  • Must be an undergraduate student currently enrolled in the first semester of the Media Arts Production BFA Program.
  • BFA Project must be a linear film/video production.

Kevin Bright ‘76 Endowed Film Completion Fund

Through the enormous generosity of an Emerson College benefactor and trustee, Kevin Bright '76, these funds will underwrite student work that (1) is in the final stages of production, (2) encourages a critical understanding of and sensitivity to our interconnected and multicultural world, and (3) demonstrates originality and vision.

  • $1,000  (typically distributed as $500 awards per project)

Eligibility

  • Must be an undergraduate student currently enrolled in the first semester of the Media Arts Production BFA Program.
  • BFA Project must be a linear film/video production.

Take Action Hollywood Award for Social Justice

The Take Action Hollywood Award for Social Justice is sponsored by Maria Menounos ’00. The funds are to be used to support student work that most powerfully explores a current social issue (cultural, political, or personal). 

Total Award Available per Year

  • $2,000 (typically distributed as $500 awards per project)

Eligibility

  • This award is open to all VMA undergraduate and graduate students.
  • The project must explore a current social issue (cultural, political, or personal).
  • All awarded projects must carry "Take Action Hollywood" in their credits.

Virgin Unite Social Impact Fund 

This fund was created to provide support for Emerson College students to create short documentary films, short narrative films or public service announcements inspired by, but not limited to, the following themes: youth homelessness; gender issues; human rights; female empowerment; moral responsibility; local community; prison reform; sustainable environments; best practice & ethical business; or peace and other connected projects nominated by students.

Total Award Available per Year

  • $3,000  (typically distributed as $1,000 to $2,500 awards per project) 

Eligibility

  • This award is open to all VMA undergraduate and graduate students in good academic standing.
  • The project must explore one of the following themes: youth homelessness; gender issues; human rights; female empowerment; moral responsibility; local community; prison reform; sustainable environments; best practice & ethical business; or peace and other connected projects.
