Overview

This demand centers on administration work in collaboration with the Intercultural Student Advisory Board. Specifically:

Demand 1

To host an annual forum to hear BISOC community concerns around racial bias and equity. (VPs, deans, and department heads must attend, information shared with students, mutually agreed upon time.)

Specific Actions

Identify specific date in April. Schedule a meeting with Intercultural Students and POWER to discuss goals and proposed structure for the forum. Academic leaders will participate.

Dates/Timeframe Updates

Intercultural Students and POWER met with Sylvia Spears in March and identified potential date and format for April forum. Representatives have been identified from Academic Affairs and Campus Life to coordinate planning.


Demand 2

Students asked to be on committees be compensated for their time and emotional labor.

Specific Actions

Draft compensation policy developed for students participating in the Presidential Advisory Group.

Dates/Timeframe Updates

On 2/10/21, students were invited to participate in the Presidential Advisory Council with compensation. Deadline to respond to the invitation was 2/19/21, with a number of students confirming participation.


Demand 3

Administration must respond to these demands and hold a public open forum to discuss action steps with the Emerson community within the first two weeks of the Spring 2021 semester.
