Higher Education Emergency Relief Act Compliance
In compliance with the Department of Education’s requirements, below are details regarding the use of the Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (American Rescue Act (ARP) funds) granted to Emerson College:
- Emerson College has signed and submitted to the Department the Certification and Agreement and has used, or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
- The ARP has provided $3,440,056 to Emerson College to provide emergency financial aid grants to students whose lives have been disrupted due to COVID-19.
- $3,440,056 in Emergency Financial Aid Grants have been distributed to Emerson students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the ARP funds as of 6/30/2022
- Approximately 5,948 Emerson students are eligible to participate under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
- 752 Emerson students have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant under section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of 6/30/2022
- Methods of determination for funding under the American Rescue Plan at Emerson College:
- Although not considered Title IV aid funds, applicants can be eligible to submit a FAFSA or ineligible to submit a FAFSA, but demonstrate need (US Citizen; Eligible Non-Citizen, non-US Citizen);
- Grants will be distributed directly to student via direct deposit;
- Must be a matriculated, degree seeking student (undergraduate or graduate) at Emerson College;
- Must have been enrolled during the Spring 2020 term or are currently enrolled in a program that was not already an established online and/or low-residency program prior to COVID-19;
- Must have COVID-19 related expenses that are not direct charges paid to Emerson College (examples of appropriate considerations: off-campus housing, groceries/meals, utilities, transportation, child care, educational needs, clothing, etc);
- These funds CAN be used for tuition payment or institutional reimbursement with written student permission;
- Minimum funding level $100; Maximum funding level $6,500;
- Must submit a short application attesting to the need and use of the funding;
- Students may apply more than once during the span of the year, provided that funding is still available;
- Due to limited funds and the need to help as many students as possible, applicants are not guaranteed funding or funding levels. All applications are subject to approval;
- Incoming students with COVID-19 related indirect expenses that choose to enroll at Emerson College may be eligible to apply AFTER September 15, 2021.
