Book a Career Center Workshop for your Class
Don't Cancel Class is a program that aims to provide career workshops and professional development as an alternative to canceling class when a professor or instructor needs to be absent. Instead of canceling class, schedule one of our staff members at the Career Development Center to lead a workshop on professional development.
Purpose
What’s this program for?
The primary goal of the Don’t Cancel Class program is to minimize disruptions in students’ learning experiences due to unforeseen faculty absences or scheduling conflicts. Instead of canceling class, faculty can partner with the Career Center to offer students valuable career-related workshops during their regular class time. This initiative ensures that students continue to engage in meaningful educational activities that support their personal and professional development, while also optimizing faculty time and campus resources.
How it Works
We’re here to help!
- Faculty Communication: When a faculty member anticipates a scheduling conflict or unexpected absence, instead of canceling the class, they notify the Career Center.
- Workshop Selection: The Career Center works with the faculty member to select or customize a workshop that aligns with the students’ academic progress and career readiness needs.
- Workshop Delivery: Career Center staff or trained facilitators deliver the workshop during the scheduled class time, either in-person or virtually.
- Student Engagement: Students participate actively in the workshop, gaining skills and knowledge related to career planning, job search strategies, professional networking, and more.
- Feedback Loop: Post-workshop, faculty can receive summaries or feedback to ensure the workshop met learning objectives and gather insights for future sessions.
