Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund Reporting (HEERF Reporting)

On April 9, 2020, Secretary Betsy Devos informed colleges and universities emergency aid funds had been allocated to us under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act (H.R. 748). This emergency funding is referred to as the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF). On April 10, Marlboro College submitted to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement in order to receive funding. Of the HEERF allocation to each institution, the College certified 50% would be given directly to students for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the coronavirus (including food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and child care).
Marlboro College has received $67,643 from the Department of Education explicitly for the use of emergency financial aid for students. This represents 50% of the total amount allocated to Marlboro College for emergency relief.
A total of 131 students were eligible to participate in this program according to guidance received by the Department of Education on April 9 and additional guidance received on April 22nd. As of May 7, 2020 $67,643 has been distributed to 82 Marlboro students.
As of April 22, guidance was provided via a FAQ by the Department of Education limiting funds to Title IV eligible students. With the limited funding we received, Marlboro College awarded funds to students meeting the following criteria:
- Undergraduate Degree seeking
- Enrolled full-time for the spring 2020 semester for on campus coursework as of March 13, 2020
- A completed 2019-2020 FAFSA on file with the Marlboro College Financial Aid Office
- Eligible for Title IV funds
- EFC less than 18,000
The award letter sent to each student indicated they had been awarded emergency funds under the CARES Act and that the funding was due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They were instructed that funds could be used for housing, food, course materials, technology for the purpose of school work, health care and child care.
