Master’s Programs in the Department of Performing Arts
Master of Arts in Theatre Education and Applied Theatre
The MA in Theatre Education and Applied Theatre is designed for students who want to work at the intersection of theatre, education, and community engagement. Many of our graduates have gone on to become private school theatre teachers, teaching artists, community-based educators, directors, and playwrights, while others have gone on to pursue MFAs and doctoral degrees.
Master of Arts in Theatre Education: Licensure
Our MA in Theatre Education: Licensure program prepares students to become theatre teachers and provides students with initial licensure in Massachusetts for all education levels, with opportunities in PK–12 classrooms and after-school programs. Accredited by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the program teaches foundational teaching skills.
Master of Fine Arts in Theatre Education and Applied Theatre
Completion of the on-campus MFA in Theatre Education and Applied Theatre program opens the door to leadership positions in professional theatres and community-based arts organizations and teaching full-time in colleges and universities for those interested in a career in higher education. There are some opportunities to work as teaching assistants in undergraduate courses during the MFA program, offering valuable experience and resumé credentials that facilitate a successful transition into teaching theatre courses in post-secondary education.
