Faculty Roles for Assistant Directors

Assistant Director of the Global BFA Program (School of the Arts)

Appointed by the Dean in consultation with the VMA department chair and the Vice Provost for Internationalization & Equity. Two year appointment, renewable. One course equivalency per year; $5,000 summer stipend.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain communication with Emerson’s GBFA Director of weekly progress.
  • Act as point-of-contact in the absence of the Program Director.
  • Assist the Director in coordinating faculty teaching assignments for all courses in the program.
  • Coordinate with Chair, Associate Chairs and MTP at Emerson to ensure adequate equipment, facilities and staffing support are in place to support academics during summer sessions 1 & 2.
  • Coordinate with VMA to create and fill rosters for all courses (in-person or online) and submit them to the Registrar (GBFA students do not self-register).
  • Collaborate with the PCA Film Department Director to ensure all students are registered into correct courses while attending at Paris.
  • Assist GBFA Director in working with Student Success Office regarding students entering or returning from a period of Leave of Absence including reentry advising.
  • Serve as academic advisor for Y1 and Y2 students.
  • Ensure availability of theaters, galleries or other facilities for capstone presentations.
  • Work with Career Services and the Alumni Office to organize and schedule informational events for the students about resources available to them (e.g., Emerge, etc.).
  • With Emerson’s GBFA Director, facilitate communication between Emerson Career Services and PCA to provide internship and experiential opportunities in the USA and France/Europe.
  • In collaboration with the Office of Internationalization & Equity, coordinate a semi-annual speaker series featuring industry leaders (“Industry Talks”).
  • Serve on the Graduation Committee to organize and hold graduation ceremonies on each campus.
  • Attend monthly Emerson internal GBFA meetings.
  • Attend monthly joint Emerson-PCA meetings with key program stakeholders from Emerson and Paris College of Art.
  • Attend monthly Co-curricular meetings to discuss the creation of opportunities for GBFA students outside the classroom.

Assistant Director of the Business of Creative Enterprises Program (School of Communication)

Appointed by the Dean. Two year appointment, renewable. One course equivalency per year; $5,000 summer stipend.

Responsibilities

  • Support BCE Director in development and coordination of curriculum, course scheduling, and mentoring of faculty.
  • Lead and oversee student groups (e.g., BCE Ambassadors, BCE Mentors).
  • Propose, produce, and/or lead implementation of BCE programming (e.g., events, special sessions) per guidance of BCE Director.
  • Liaise with key leaders, thought partners, and communities in service of BCE interests (e.g., curriculum, faculty recruitment, student outcomes).

Assistant Director of the Emerson Prison Initiative

Appointed by the Provost, in consultation with the EPI Director. Two year appointment, renewable. One course equivalency per year; $5,000 summer stipend.

Responsibilities

  • Course scheduling and faculty and TA recruitment/hiring for MCI-Norfolk and Northeastern Correctional Center.
  • Coordinate and support faculty and TAs as they prepare to teach and throughout the semester.
  • Coordinate IN347 EPI Co-Curricular, including recruiting/advising instructors.
  • Work with Director of Finance and Grants each semester on faculty/TA compensation.
  • Degree planning and tracking for EPI cohorts and individual students.
  • Meet yearly with Emerson Advising re: EPI degree planning and as needed for EPI students on Boston campus.
  • Student academic advising in coordination with Director and Site Coordinator.
  • Develop and coordinate faculty/TA orientations and training sessions with Site Coordinator.
  • Plan and manage academic calendar in coordination with Site Coordinator.
  • Liaise with Registrar and Academic Affairs.
  • Manage relationships with College offices (Finance, Financial Aid, Student Success).
  • Supervise Program Manager related to duties connected to Assistant Director’s portfolio.
  • Supervise Program Coordinator related to duties connected to Assistant Director’s portfolio).
  • Advise Program Manager on EPI relationships across Emerson College.
  • Liaise with Department of Correction (DOC) Manager of Continuing Education and Head Teacher at MCI-Norfolk.
  • Coordinate semester schedules with Northeastern Correctional Center staff.
  • Visit MCI-Norfolk and NECC each semester (and as needed) to update and advise students on degree pathways.
  • Co-lead EPI admissions.
  • Plan EPI Commencement.
  • Plan Boston campus special events (with EPI Director and staff).
  • Contribute to quarterly newsletter as needed.
  • Twice a semester meeting with Dean; weekly meeting of EPI leadership; monthly EPI AC Meeting.
  • Participate in NECHE applications and reporting duties as needed.
