Communication has been at the heart of Emerson’s mission since our founding in 1880 as a school of oratory. Today, in a society where the means of communication are more diverse and complex than ever, we remain a leader in preparing students for what it takes, and what’s to come. Across four departments, we offer undergraduate and graduate degrees, the wisdom and experience of our faculty, the success of our alumni, and the opportunity for future Emersonians to learn, grow, and succeed.
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders combines classroom learning with clinical experience to prepare you for a rewarding career in speech-language pathology, audiology, occupational therapy, and related disciplines.
In the Department of Communication Studies, you will study sports communication, political communication, polling, forensics, and more, with the opportunity to participate in and complete projects on a local, national, and even global scale. Communication Studies is home to the internationally renowned Emerson Polling.
Combining traditional and innovative approaches, the Department of Journalism equips you with the ability to write compelling, original news stories—and bring those stories to life through broadcast, print, web, and multimedia platforms as part of the #1 journalism program in the nation.
Whether your interests are in strategic marketing, marketing communications, or entrepreneurship, the Department of Marketing Communication offers courses on branding, advertising, public relations concepts and methods, and more. The Marketing Communication department houses Business of Creative Enterprises, Entrepreneurial Studies, and Business Studies.
