About the Pre-College Musical Theatre Studio

Emerson College’s on-campus Pre-College Musical Theatre Studio program introduces students to the rigors of Emerson's nationally renowned undergraduate BFA training in musical theater. The four-week summer program, eligible for 4 college credits, takes place at our urban campus in downtown Boston.

Students receive technique-based training for singing, acting, dance, and song interpretation that reflects the training in the Emerson BFA Musical Theatre program, which emphasizes process. The priority is not on performance or production, but on the fundamentals, vocabulary, and discipline of the craft. Preparation for college admission auditions as well as business protocol in the industry will also be addressed.

Faculty members have Broadway, regional, national touring, summer stock, and television and film credits, and draw from these experiences to create a dynamic cross between scholarship and rigorous training. Alumni and current upper-level students of the BFA Musical Theatre program at Emerson are also invited to round out the faculty.

During the last week of the program, students who are rising seniors are offered an option to audition for future admittance consideration to Emerson’s BFA Musical Theatre program.

Musical Theatre Studio is offered only as a credit program option.
