The Program for Developmental Communication Disorders provides services to pre-school and school-aged children who are in need of developing, expanding, or modifying their speech and/or language skills. Developmental communication disorders may occur alone or may be seen in conjunction with diagnoses such as Global Developmental Delay, Specific Language Impairment, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, and Williams Syndrome.

Evaluation and therapy are available for children with:

  • Speech production deficits
  • Language delays or disorders
  • Language-related learning and literacy problems

Evaluation services provide information to determine and/or confirm a diagnosis, develop a treatment plan, and monitor progress over time.

Therapy sessions are tailored to the specific needs of each child. Clinicians use a variety of techniques and strategies to facilitate learning. Individual and group therapy sessions give each child both the personal attention needed and the opportunity to practice and generalize newly developed skills in a peer centered context. The program emphasizes a family-centered approach, incorporating caregivers into all aspects of the treatment process.
