Posting a Job 

Creating a job requisition is the start of the recruitment process. Each on-campus or Service Work-Study position must be posted on Workday

  1. Log into Workday and select Recruiting > Create Job Requisition.
  2. Follow the necessary prompts.
  3. Submit the requisition to be approved by Student Employment 
  4. Once approved, it will be sent to the cost center for approval 
  5. Posted by Student Employment.

An ideal job description will include the following: 

  • Key adjectives that students can use from the job description as transferable skills 
  • A thorough and specific outline of the primary responsibilities
  • Bullet points, to be concise and organized 
  • Any specific programs, software, or websites a student must be familiar or will learn to be familiar with 
  • If the job is in-person or remote 
  • The department’s hours of operation so the student can see if their availability lines up
  • How many hours a week a student is expected to work 
  • The physical requirements (if there is travel required or if they need to be able to lift a certain amount) 
  • Desired qualifications or what you’re hoping to teach the student
  • Any specific requests you may have of the student (for example, a writing sample)

Hiring a Student

Once your job is posted, you can begin the recruiting and then the hiring process: 

  1. Screen, interview, and offer position to a candidate in Workday. 
  2. Candidate accepts the offer.
  3. Initiate the hire process in Workday and submit to Cost Center Manager for approval.
  4. Setup on-boarding for student worker.
  5. Student employee completes online I-9, W4, state tax form, Direct Deposit, and acknowledgments.
  6. Student will receive an email to bring original forms of ID to the Office of Financial Aid (4th floor, 216 Tremont Street). This is to complete the I-9. Federal Regulations prohibit the use of an reproductions, including scans and copies, of the original documents. Please view the following instructions based on student type. 
  7. Student cleared to begin working. Email is sent to student and supervisor. Student cannot work until this email has been received by both parties.
