The Department of Communication Studies in Emerson College’s School of Communication offers three on-campus master’s programs: a Master of Arts (MA) in Political Communication, an MA in Public Relations, and an MA in Sports Communication. The department also offers an online MA in Digital Communication Leadership program and three hybrid graduate certificate programs in Political Communication, Public Relations, and Sports Communication.
Master’s Programs in the Department of Communication Studies
Master of Arts in Digital Communication Leadership
In the online MA in Digital Communication Leadership program, students take core courses in leadership and management to acquire the skills needed for directors and executives. Electives allow students to deepen their knowledge in strategic communication, marketing, public relations, content development, digital analytics, user experience design, and more.
Master of Arts in Political Communication
Students will learn how to develop campaign leadership through strategic messaging in the on-campus MA in Political Communication program. They will focus on polling and focus group and survey research to craft and deliver political narratives across traditional and digital media.
Master of Arts in Public Relations
In the on-campus MA in Public Relations program, students will learn how to successfully target individuals and communities through the latest social media and emerging communication technologies. With three tracks to choose from in political communication, sports communication, and strategic public relations, as well as the chance to count prior work experience toward their degree, students can tailor their learning based on their career goals and achievements.
Master of Arts in Sports Communication
The on-campus MA in Sports Communication program offers students who have a passion for sports the opportunity to advance their career. In this program, students will gain skills in everything from digital sports media management, and speech writing to facility and event management and media coaching for athletes.

Certificate in Public Relations
In the hybrid graduate certificate program in Public Relations, students review communication basics and study the latest industry research and social media trends. The flexibility of our program gives professionals an opportunity to retool in the industry by taking courses on campus or online.
Certificate in Sports Communication
The hybrid graduate certificate in Sports Communication provides students with the opportunity to combine their passion for sports with a career in communication.
